DEREK LUCAS
OF COUNSEL
Derek Lucas is joining the firm following over ten years in a successful private practice, most recently as a partner at Bourlon & Lucas Law, PLLC. He brings a breadth of knowledge in dispute resolution, collaborative divorce, estate planning, probate and family law. Derek graduated from Florida A&M College of Law. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida and began his career in the pharmaceutical and medical equipment sales industry. This experience helped Derek to bring insight from outside of the law to his practice and to applying outside of the box thinking to resolve disputes.
Derek is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator and a member of the Hillsborough Bar Association and the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar. Derek served as the co-chairperson of Next Generation Divorce from 2016 until the end of 2017. Next Generation Divorce is one of the largest collaborative divorce groups in the country and Derek served as a Board member of Next Generation Divorce from 2013 – 2017. Derek has also been a member of the Stan Givens Family Law Inns of Court, CABA (Carrollwood Area Business Association) and a “Big Brother” in the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
Derek grew up in Winter Haven, Florida and currently lives in North Tampa with his wife, five children and their dog. Although not a native himself, his wife and children are native Floridians, and he has lived in Florida for over 40 years. Derek loves everything about being a Floridian and being in Tampa especially. He is an avid Tampa Bay sports fan and spends his free time with his family participating in water sports, biking, camping and many other outdoor activities. Derek is a believer in the words of Maya Angelou, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
